Obituary

Joseph Allen Makowski Sr, aged 88, passed into the arms of the Lord on February 26, 2024. Born to Joseph Frank Makowski and Georgia Josephine Harvey, he leaves behind a legacy of dedication and hard work. Joseph devoted most of his life to the elevator industry, serving in modernization contracts and sales.

Joseph was known for his unparalleled skill and passion for sports, honing his skills with dedication and perseverance. His love for tennis was evident to all who knew him, as he spent countless hours perfecting his game and inspiring others with his finesse and sportsmanship.

After graduating from Macomber High School in 1953, Joseph embarked on a remarkable career. Joseph received a bachelor’s degree from University of Toledo in mechanical engineering. He began his journey at Haughton/Schindler in Toledo, then moved on to Payne Elevators in Cambridge, Massachusetts, before finally settling at Kone Elevator in Dayton, Ohio. Throughout his career, Joseph’s expertise and passion for innovation left an indelible mark on the industry.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Susan, their sons Joseph (Mackenzie) and Michael and children from a previous marriage Lynda Smith, Cindy (Karl) Mitze, and Bryan (Susan) Makowski. His memory lives on through his six grandchildren, Karl Joseph, Levi (Teodora), Melissa, Bryce (Ali), Jordan, and Rowan as well as his three great grandchildren, Colette, Mason, and Miles. He will be sorely missed by his surviving sister Mariya Lowry in Utah, his half brother David (Stephanie) Makowski in New York as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Joseph’s kindness, wisdom and unwavering love for his family will forever be cherished. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace.
