Obituary

JoAnn B. (Brown) Lounsberry, 79 of Dayton, Ohio went to be with the Lord on April 17, 2024 at Miami Valley Hospital South. JoAnn graduated from Stivers High School in Dayton, Ohio. JoAnn went on to have a successful career as a telephone operator for Ohio Bell and then as a printer operator for General Motors (EDS) for 30 years where she met many wonderful friends. JoAnn also went to school to get her relator’s license. After her retirement, JoAnn played an active role in her grandchildren’s’ lives and spent lots of her free time gardening her flowers.  She was proceeded in death by her parents Rev. John Henry and Rev. Edna Brown, Brothers: Carlos and Johnny Brown, Sister Judy Brown McIntosh, Niece Angela LaFevers Risner, and Nephew John Brown. She is survived by her daughter Aimee Marshall, granddaughter Morgan Atkinson, grandson Levi Marshall, brother Eddie (Brenda) Brown, Nephew Jamie Brown, Niece Jessica Campbell, Nephew Daniel Risner, Sister in law Brenda Brown, and lifelong best friend, Sherry Thatcher. JoAnn’s Celebration of Life will be held at Wood Glen Alzheimer’s Community Center, 3800 Summit Glen Dr. Dayton, Ohio 45449 on Thursday April 25, 2024 from 2-5pm. The family invites her family and friends to come and celebrate her life and remember JoAnn. The family would personally like to thank JoAnn’s care team at Wood Glen who treated her more like family than a patient. They would especially like to extend a special thank you to Shay, JoAnn’s night nurse who JoAnn dearly loved. The family would also like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Miami Valley South ER especially Dr. Elliot, Respiratory Therapist, Amber, and Nurse Christian and Miami Valley South staff in PCU 4, Nurse Janet, Nurse Tonya, and all the other staff but especially Dr. Sabinah Sayeed, M.D. whose kindness made JoAnn’s transition extremely peaceful and gave the family such grace.

    Sorry to lose another one of our Stivers tigers. JoAnn was one of the “girls” who rented a cabin with us when we needed some R & R. She kept all of us laughing.
