Obituary

Steven Eric Nickell, age 62 of Kettering Ohio went to be with the Lord on Wednesday February 12, 2025 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born December 30, 1962 in Xenia Ohio the son of the late James E (Bud), Nickell and Patsy Jo (Williams) Nickell. survived by Step mother Rita Nickell of Richmond KY.
His wife, Susan Nickell of Kettering Ohio; mother in law Mae Eby; sister, Lisa Nickell of Huber Heights; Brother Lucas Martin of Richmond KY; son, Tadd Woodie/Lisa Doty of Fairborn; son Eric Nickell/Jodi Medlin of Springboro ; son Daniel Waker of Kettering; grandchildren; Tanner and Laura Woodie; Haylie and Liam Medlin ; as well as his niece; Jessica/Kyle Day; nephew; Nick McGowan; great-nephew Samson Jo Day and other extended family.
Steve (Bull) worked as a warehouse inventory puller for Amazon prior to his cancer diagnosis. Before that he was a warehouse coordinator/dispatcher working logistics for Priority Dispatch for 16 years. Starting with a 20 plus year career with Reynolds & Reynolds of Dayton. Graduate of Park Hills High School 1981. Went to college on a baseball scholarship at Austin Peay State University of Clarksville, TN
He loved coaching especially in 2023 when he had the opportunity to help coach his grandson, Tanner’s baseball team along side his son, Tadd. He was a coach for many years when Eric and Tadd were younger. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s athletic activities (Laura), playing volley ball. (Tanner) playing baseball, (Haylie), performing in dance recitals and (Liam), playing flag football.
Steve was a talented athlete. He was elected into the Fairborn High School Athletic Hall of Fame 2024 for these athletic accomplishments.

PHHS Football: 1979 Best Offensive Back Award and 1980 – Captain, MVP Award and MCC District Champs
PHHS Baseball: 1981 – All-Area Award, East-West All-Star Team, Dayton Journal Herald – 1st Team, Miami Valley Coaches Association All-Star Team, Captain District Champion Team, All State Selection
Team Awards:
PHHS Varsity Football: 1979 – Best Offensive Back Award and 1980 – Captain and MVP Award
PHHS Baseball: 1980 – MVP, Batting Champ, Best Defense Award; 1981 – MVP, Batting Title, MCC District champs
Steve was a talented singer he loved bluegrass gospel and country music. His first love was family and friends. He enjoyed playing golf as much as he was able to. When he was younger he was an accomplished bowler winning many tournaments. He enjoyed watching all types of sports. He was good hearted with a wonderful wit and sense of humor. He will be truly missed. Steve made an impression that will last life times in many hearts.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on March 8, 2025 at Dayton First Church of The Nazarene, 7031 N. Main St. Dayton, Ohio 45415. Pastor John Stone officiating with Bro. Bruce Davis and Dale Davis speaking. In lieu of viewing the family will receive friends for visitation from 2pm to 3:25pm with service starting at 3:30pm. Family will gather afterwards for fellowship meal.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fairborn Little League or the American Cancer Society.

    I didn’t know Steve well enough to know all his sports accomplishment, but I knew his heart for Jesus. I know he put his full trust in the Lord, and I know he is with Him now. His testimony will live on in the lives he touched.
