Obituary

Melvin Eugene Lewis, 87, of Ohio, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 12, 1938, in Dayton, Ohio, and was raised in Lebanon, Ohio.

Melvin proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, living in several states during his military service. After his time in the Air Force, he built a successful career as an organ technician, owning and operating his own business for many years. His expertise and dedication to his craft were matched only by his love for understanding how things worked and his passion for teaching others. This passion led him to teach electronics to young people at ITT Technical Institute, where he earned great respect from his students.

A devoted man of faith, Melvin served faithfully in his church for many years. He was known for his love of solving puzzles, his curious mind that was always eager to learn, and his generous spirit.

Melvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Colleen, who passed away in April 2017.

He is survived by his four children: Michele Fiste, Teresa Rowland, Beth Hampton and her husband Don, and Michael Lewis; nine grandchildren: Shara, Mark Anthony, Maxwell, Hadassah, Japheth, Sarah, Gabriel, Robert, and Hannah; two great-grandchildren: Isabella and Josh Jr.; his sisters, Celia Roberts and Joyce Stoner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Glickler Funeral Home, 1849 Salem Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, on Monday, June 1st at 10:00 AM, with a graveside service following at the National Military Cemetery of Dayton, 4400 W Third Street, Dayton, Ohio.
