Matthew Ray Spencer, aged 51, passed away on October 14, 2024, in Dayton, Ohio. Born on August 24, 1973, Matthew was a man whose presence was a blessing to those around him, embodying the spirit of a true friend to all.
Matthew graduated from Xenia High School and went on to excel in various skilled trades including construction, maintenance, rehabbing, landscaping, and pool installations. His work ethic and versatility in his career were paralleled by his commitment to serving others.
A devout attendee of Liberty Worship Center, Matthew dedicated much of his time to spreading The Word of God. His faith was evident in his daily life even as he enjoyed his hobbies which included canoeing, kayaking, camping, riding roller coasters, and his special love for children always brought a smile and laughter to those he came in contact with; He also loved music and lived his life to the fullest. Matthew was a servant at heart, always ready to lend a hand, whether it was helping with a task, cleaning, cooking, or any other need that arose. His love for humanity was immense and was felt by everyone he encountered.
Matthew is survived by his children, Liam Ray Spencer (age 9), Siddiq Brock (age 24), Saarah Brock (age 21), and Liam Tocknell (age 19); his beloved fiance, Sonya Hamilton and her children, Michelle Theis, William (Destiny Wright) Theis, & Staci Mullen; and nine grandchildren, Kyren Ingram, Remmi Ingram, Ariah Butler, Armoni Theis, Xavier Theis, Ryleigh Wright, Bethany Theis, Silas Mullen, and Lailah Mullen; whom he loved as his own. He also leaves behind his uncle, Tom Waters, and dear cousin, Tara (Sean) Dove, and their children, Sean & Kylee, and last but not least an uncountable number of friends.
He was preceded in death by his granny, Loretta Waters, his mother, Elaine Waters Spencer, his uncle, Richard Wipert, and Aunt Lee McCord.
A celebration of life will be held and announced at a later date. If you would like, contributions can be made to Whole Truth Ministries in his honor.
