Obituary

Marierose “Marie” Amarante, 90, of Dayton, OH, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026.  She was born on August 14, 1935, in New Haven, CT, the daughter of Anthony and Beatrice (Langlois) DeMaio.  She was a graduate of West Haven High School.

Marie married Pasquale “Pat” Amarante, at Our Lady of Victory Church in West Haven, CT in 1957.  In 1963, Marie moved to Burbank, CA with her husband and two boys.  She was a homemaker for many years, while raising her two sons.  Later, she worked as an inside sales rep for a machine tool company.  After she retired in 2004, she moved to Dayton, OH to be close to her youngest son and grandchildren.  Marie was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking some of their favorite meals. You couldn’t visit her without her offering you food and drink whether you wanted it or not. She enjoyed reading and watching Turner Classic Movies.  She enjoyed watching football and hockey and was a big Notre Dame fan.  She loved shopping for other people and was very generous.  She would see something in a store that she thought one of her family members would like and buy it.  She was a strong, independent woman with an outgoing personality.

She is survived by her two sons, David (Shae) Amarante and John (Lisa) Amarante, her five grandchildren Meg, Max, Cooper, Carson, Ava, and a great grandson; brother Tony DeMaio, nieces Paula, Joann, Cathy, and several cousins.  Marie was predeceased by her parents, husband, and sister Lorraine Karetov.  She will be deeply missed, but her kindness, humor, and steady presence will live on in all who knew her.  A private burial and memorial service will follow later this year at Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Hollywood Hills), Los Angeles, California. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a youth program of your choice.
