Obituary

Jerry P. Herath, 73, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Lorraine Herath, and his brother, Trent Herath.

Jerry is survived by his wife Barbara, his brother Rex and his wife Laura and his niece Carlee, his daughters; Michelle VanHook, Shannon Beal and her husband Tim, and Kassy Cotterman and her husband Ralph. He was a proud grandfather to Jerad, Nathan, Dylan, Ella, Tucker, and Lilah, a great-grandfather to Josie and Brooklyn, and had many beloved extended family members.

Jerry enjoyed many things throughout his life, including hunting, fishing, golf, and bowling. He was an avid gun collector, motorcycle and sports car enthusiast, and a true original Cleveland Browns fan. In his later years, Jerry found a new best friend in his beloved dog, Chester, who brought him so much joy, entertainment, and companionship.

Jerry will be laid to rest at the Dayton National Cemetery. A viewing for friends and family followed by a brief church service will be held on Thursday, October 1st, 2026, from 5:30–6:30 p.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 201 W. Market St., Germantown, OH 45327,

Jerry will be remembered for the life he shared with his family, the friendships he made, the things he loved, and the memories he leaves behind with those who knew and loved him.
