Obituary

Harvey Cook, born July 17, 1932 to Johnny V Cook(Finley) in Newnan, Georgia. He transitioned home August 23, 2025 peacefully at the age of 93.  In 1941, he relocated to Dayton, Ohio in the care of Aunt and Uncle Mr. & Mrs. Alise Long and was a graduate of Dunbar High School Class of 1950.

He was a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean War in Fort Hood, TX from June 25, 1950 until he was honorable discharged after his service. He then attended and graduated from Moler Barber College in Cincinnati, OH in 1955. He then obtained his barber license in 1956 and opened the now Historical business Elmhurst Barbershop in West Dayton. Harvey would then continue to serve actively in his community for 51 years until he retired in 2008. Harvey aka Cookie was an avid gardener and outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting and traveling in his later years. He was sports fan loving the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Reds and the Dayton Dragons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 11 brothers and sisters, Curtis Vaughn, Willie “AG” Petty Sr., Howard Cook Sr., Willie Finley, Jerry Finley, John Finley, Gloria Smith, Barbara Vaughn, Linda Cameron, Marlene Rice and Helen Cook.

He now joins his loving wife of 42 years Sarah Cook, Daughters Dianne Cook, Deborah Livers and Jacqueline Stephenson. He leaves behind to cherish his memories Daughter Janice Cook, Grandchildren Kandace (Kellen)Hunter, Jason Bailey, Akinyele Stephenson, Mathew (Emily) Livers, Son-in-Law Charles Stephenson, special relatives, a host of nieces and nephews as well as many dear friends.

Before his passing the family would love thank the staff of Interim of Hospice, Kay , Amy, Travis, Pastor Raleigh Thorton and the staff at Carriage Inn Nursing home.
