Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Douglas Edward Hughes announce his peaceful passing on October 24th, 2024, at the age of 67 years. Douglas will be lovingly remembered by his wife Phylis (Crutcher) Hughes of almost 5 years. Brothers; Monty Hughes of Dayton and Kevin (Stacy) Hughes of Marysville, Ohio. He also leaves to cherish his memory 4 nephews, 3 nieces, 22 great nephews and nieces, as well as numerous other family members and friends.

Douglas was preceded in death by his late wife Josephine (Jones) Hughes of 9 years; sisters, Joyce (Jimmy) Johnson, and Sheridan (Floyd III) Ellis, and his parents William E. and Audrey Jean Hughes, all of Dayton, Ohio.

Doug, as he was referred to by his loved ones, was a graduate of Kiser High School, and had a short enlistment in the United States Army. Doug worked most of his life in construction. Doug later in life accepted Christ and became a member of the New Life Community Church. He went on to meet his loving wife Phylis; in which, they wed in August of 2019. Doug went on to be a devoted member of New Hope Church up until his impairment.

Doug often told people how much he loved the lord, and how he was so happy he gave his life to Christ. Doug will always be remembered for his love for music. Doug owned an array of audio equipment which ranged from music reels, to records, to CD-ROMs. You could often catch Doug with his headphones on, bobbing to some melody; whether it was Bon Jovi or Barry White.

Doug liked to travel with his wife Phylis. Doug loved getting on the Greyhound to explore different places. Doug was loving, funny, and his spirit was larger than life. His memory will be a blessing that fills our hearts with joy, a treasure that we will cherish always.
