In Loving Memory of Dexter Paul Thompson

July 16, 1952 – June 2, 2026

Dexter Paul Thompson, age 73, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026. Born on July 16, 1952, in Louisville, Kentucky, Dexter lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love for his family and community.

After serving honorably in the United States Navy for several years, Dexter continued his commitment to public service through his career at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, where he worked faithfully for many years. His strong work ethic, sense of duty, and quiet determination earned the respect of colleagues and friends alike.

Dexter was a devoted son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He cherished the time spent with his family and took great pride in the accomplishments including his passion for fixing cars. His wisdom, humor, and steadfast presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dexter leaves to cherish his memory his children, Alisha Crenshaw, Sterling Thompson, Zane Thompson, and Asher Thompson; 14 beloved grandchildren; his siblings, Charles Thompson Sr., Dolphine Madison, Alfred Howard Jr., Quentin Howard (Dawn), and Tara Anglin (Howard); and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Christine Howard; his father, Willie Paul Thompson; his stepfather, Alfred Howard Sr.; and his brother, Willie “Ernie” Shirley.

Dexter’s life was a testament to perseverance, service, and devotion to family. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched, the lessons he shared, and the love he gave so freely.

A Public Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the VA Center, 4100 West Third Street, Dayton, Ohio 45428.

Though he is no longer with us in body, Dexter’s spirit and memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
